Your Assessment Includes
BC curriculum-aligned diagnostic assessment
Clear identification of strengths and learning gaps
Parent consultation to review the results
Personalized recommendations for next steps
Understand where your child is before deciding what comes next
Every student has different strengths, learning gaps, and ways of approaching math. We begin with a BC curriculum-aligned diagnostic assessment to understand what your child knows, where gaps may exist, and which skills should be prioritized.
Afterward, we meet with you to review the results, answer your questions, and recommend appropriate next steps.

We begin by understanding each student, building a plan around their needs, and adjusting instruction as they progress.

Gordon Lam - Founder, Beryl Education
As a BC-certified teacher with the Vancouver School Board, I've worked with students both in the classroom and through one-on-one tutoring. These experiences have shown me how differently students learn and how valuable individualized support can be in helping them build confidence and succeed academically.
I founded Beryl Education to bring together dedicated educators who provide personalized, consistent academic support. Our approach focuses on understanding each student's strengths and challenges, building strong foundations, and keeping parents informed about their child's progress.
My goal is to make quality tutoring more accessible to Vancouver families while ensuring every student receives the attention and guidance they need to succeed.
Questions parents often ask
-
Beryl provides academic support for elementary and secondary students. Our current programs focus primarily on math, with support in English and other subjects available depending on the student and tutor match.
-
Sessions may take place in-home, at an agreed community location, or in another suitable learning environment depending on the student, tutor, and location.
-
Students complete a curriculum-aligned math diagnostic designed to identify strengths and learning gaps. We then meet with parents to review the results and discuss appropriate next steps.
-
We consider the student’s grade level, subject needs, learning style, location, schedule, and the tutor’s experience when making a match.
-
Whenever possible, yes. Consistency helps tutors understand how a student learns and allows instruction to build from one session to the next.
-
Learning Pods are small-group sessions for students working at similar levels. Each pod will have up to three students to preserve individualized attention.
